Tamrak Sign on the Lincoln Highway Above Donner Lake

The Lincoln Highway, created in 1913, used to go down Summit Canyon below Donner Pass. Along the way business interests painted ads on the rocks to entice travelers. In the distance you can see, TAMRAK RESORT Beds-Meals-Boars. The resort sat at the west end of Donner Lake. Since then there has been a lot of disruption to the area: Highway 40 was built, a petroleum pipeline (note the marker pole in the distance) was installed, and there is a fiber optic cable. So, although you can walk the Lincoln Highway route to Donner Lake (Summit Canyon Brochure pg 1 and pg 2 - or smaller version), there are a few parts that are rocky traveling.
